Private math tutoring in English or Dutch
Math that makes sense, and stays with you.
I’m Nicole, a Canadian-trained teacher. I help students stop memorizing steps and start understanding why they work, one-on-one, at your kitchen table or online.
About Nicole
Hi, I’m Nicole. I have 15 years of teaching experience, and a passion for helping students understand math. I trained and taught in Canada before moving to the Netherlands. English is my first language and I’m fluent in Dutch, so lessons can happen in whichever language helps your student think most clearly.
Over the years I’ve learned first-hand that most students in the public school system just don’t get the one-on-one attention they need in order to reach their full potential. Students tend to think that if they memorize the steps to solving their math problems they’ll be successful. I know that working one-on -one with a student to build a foundation of math literacy where they truly understand WHY they are following the the steps of the math problem helps them build upon that understanding without getting overwhelmed as courses become increasingly complex. I currently teach some of the most demanding math courses in the Dutch school system. The ones where students are expected to move quickly and think hard. Memorizing just simply isn’t enough.
That’s the difference I care about. Showing a student how to do it can get tonight’s homework done, but my goal is math literacy: students who can read a problem, choose a strategy, explain their thinking, and trust it on a test when I’m not sitting next to them.
My specialties
HAVO and VWO onderbouw and bovenbouw, IB math in English

The first lesson pinpoints exactly where understanding breaks down, which is often a topic from years earlier.

A plan around school
Lessons follow your student’s textbook and test dates, so what we practise shows up in class.
-
Regular check-ins
Parents get regular progress updates: what’s improved and what’s next.

Questions parents ask
Are lessons in English or Dutch?
Tutoring in either language is available. English is my native language but I am also fluent in Dutch.
Can you work with my child’s textbook?
Yes. Bring the book, notes and upcoming test dates to the first lesson.
How often should my child have lessons?
Most students do well with one lesson a week. Before exams, two a week for a short period can help. We’ll decide together after the intake session.
What if we need to cancel a lesson?
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the lesson.
